Abstract

Ticket revenue for MLB games accounts for nearly 28% of the average team’s annual income, and the following study focuses on determining the extent to which various gameday factors play a role in influencing attendance at Chicago MLB games. The research team studied five factors: weather in the form of temperature, winning percentage of the home team, closeness of competition, day of week, and the time of day. The overall findings suggest that weather, day of the week, and winning percentage were all influential in predicting attendance, however, the degree to which each affected the different teams are not equal.
