Abstract

This article is adapted from a presentation given at a conference on Catholic Social Teaching and street homeless held in the Vatican through the coordination of the Institute of Global Homelessness. It offers an ecclesiological analysis of the locus theologicus of the “community of the streets,” not as disparate cacophony of anonymity, isolation, impersonality, and menace, but rather as a magisterial teaching voice in connection with the global priorities of the current pontificate regarding the protagonism of the peripheries, the Pact of the Catacombs, and Vincentian spirituality.
