Abstract
The purpose of this doctoral capstone project is to outline a plan for engaging school psychologists in courageous conversations. School psychologists are being called to lead social justice initiatives (NASP, 2019), but there is little evidence that they have been adequately prepared to do this work. The American education system has a long history of students of color experiencing discrimination and racism that have contributed to modern day phenomena such as the achievement gap, disproportionality in special education, and inequities in disciplinary practices (Anyon et al., 2014; Blake et al., 2020; Yeh, 2020). Implementing the Courageous Conversations framework (Singleton, 2022) with school psychologists acting as facilitators, collaborators, and consultants will give school psychologists the tools they need to discuss race. Although these conversations may sometimes be uncomfortable, they are necessary.
