Abstract

  • Our research objective is to identify consumer characteristics in Chicago neighborhoods with and without green roofs, compare their behaviors, and analyze whether there is a correlation between the existence of green roofs and environmentally friendly behavior. We used Chicago green roof map data to identify concentrations of green roofs, consumer behavior surrounding sustainability, and general demographics and modeled the data using cluster analysis (Lincoln park being the main comparison because it has the highest amount of green roofs). There were 5 clusters based on high response rate (positive) and low response rate (negative) to environment related behavior questions and median household income.
