Abstract

This presentation is based on my experience as an intern with Loyola University Chicago’s Urban Agriculture program. The internship is a semester-long, hands-on experience, where interns work in shift rotations in aquaponics, indoor mushroom production, hydroponics, and gardening. I share my experience in each of the rotations, highlights, and my semester-long independent project of redesigning the Winthrop Shade Garden. This redesign has goals of utilizing Illinois native edibles, flowers, and pollinator attractive species. I share what I learned, information about the program, and show the production spaces on the Lakeshore campus run by the program assistants and interns.
