Abstract

Lead is a natural toxicant causing adverse health effects in Chicago through lead pipes. Chicago has the greatest lead pipe usage than any other city in the United States. Lead pipes are most common in older homes, and the city has not replaced lead pipes with safer alternatives due to the expense. Consequently, predominantly Black and Latine communities have a greater risk of lead poisoning than White communities in Chicago.
