Abstract
This study is based on an academic internship experience with the Chicago Refugee Coalition, a local non-profit organization centered on supporting local refugees of varying backgrounds. In describing the different tasks and obligations I held as a student intern, I discuss how those tasks revealed to me the struggles that non-profit organizations face in attempting to actualize their goals in a majority for-profit world and environment. While the work I performed at this organization was certainly beneficial, there remained certain setbacks that appeared inherent to the manner in which this and all non-profit organizations are operating. There are, however, researched methods included in this presentation that indicate how to maximize success for non-profits despite the barriers set against them.
