Abstract

This project analyzes the connection between democracy and constitutional design. First, this project will provide a clear definition of democracy in order to successfully analyze each constitution. Secondly, this project will analyze the following concepts as features of democracy: political stability, electoral competition, separation of powers, and political parties. Finally, this project will provide a case study of two democratic nations in order to examine the connection between constitutional design and features of democracy. The following nations were selected based on their Freedom House Global Freedom Scores: Brazil and Egypt.
