Abstract

Buddhism was founded over 2500 years ago in India by Siddhartha Gautama, known as the Buddha. Buddhism is a popular religion, not only in Asia but all over the world. Its popularity has grown not only in terms of its religious beliefs but of its practices as well. Core Buddhist beliefs such as samsara, nirvana, and the lack of a soul are present when learning about the religion. The Buddhism Temple of Chicago is an important part of both the Buddhist religion and the city, rising in popularity and importance once the history of the temple is explained.
