Abstract

The purpose of this study is to understand the experience of transgender and gender diverse identifying individuals’ identity development; to understand how social media impacted their gender identity development; and understand how family members and religion impacted their gender identity development. We utilized individual interviews with a sample of TGD undergraduate students. We used thematic qualitative analysis rooted in a constructionist perspective to guide our analyses. Three themes were found, religion, parents, and social media, and each had sub-themes.
