Abstract

This presentation will compare the roles of speech therapy in outpatient and inpatient rehabilitative care. In the Fall of 2023, I interned at Weiss Memorial Hospital where I focused on the daily routine and patient care in the speech therapy department. I assisted in evaluating and treating patients who required speech therapy services, including swallowing, speech, and cognitive communication therapy. By visiting patients on different units, I was able to notice the changes in how speech therapy is utilized in recovery. Through different sessions, I realized that there is a variation in therapeutic methods that are associated with different levels of care.
