Abstract

This spring semester, as part of an engaged learning component of the course ‘Religions of Asia’, students visited a religious site related to the Indo-Asian religions studied throughout the course. My classmate and I visited the Hindu Temple of Greater Chicago in Lemont, Illinois. As part of our visit there, we photographed the temple buildings, observed architecture, and conducted interviews with three people. The interview covered questions about the history, the religious services, and demographics of the attendees among others. Through this project, we were able to compare and contrast beliefs of the religion that we learned in class to the first-hand experiences of its believers.
