Abstract

The wood panel used as the canvas signifies the idea that we are intertwined with plants although we sometimes forget it. With so much wood being used for human consumption, it seemed fitting to use a very small proportion of that to honor the history of plants and what they provide for us. The outline of each plant was burned to signify the mark that humans have had for thousands of years on shaping the course of evolution of these plants both directly through artificial selection and indirectly through habitat change and global warming. The golden paint used for the paths taken by the different groups of plants represents the idea that each path is unique and worth more than gold itself. This is especially the case when considering the fact that the golden path has resulted in such a remarkably large number of astoundingly striking, diverse, and colorful plant species as represented by the vibrant choice of acrylic colors chosen to fill in the wood-burned outlines.
