Abstract
Today, depression is a societal crisis and many individuals affected are unable to receive accessible treatment. Savoring is an awareness of positive experiences and the use of positive emotion regulation strategies to enhance positive feelings and research has shown that higher levels of savoring are correlated with less self-reported depressive symptoms. This study examined how the capacity to savor impacts depressive symptoms over the course of an eight-week app-based mindfulness intervention. Our analysis revealed those subject to the intervention showed a greater change in their capacity to savor and depressive symptoms relative to controls. Thus, savoring plays a significant role in mediating the effects of a mindfulness intervention on depression symptomatology.
